Target is killing me. Loft of Love by Our Generation. Yay Modern!!!

Target just dropped the $49.99 price for the Lori 6" Doll - Dollhouse down to $37.50!! BUT it's only sold in stores, so check if it is in stock before running to your local Target. Also called "Lori by OG Loft of Love Dollhouse" (OG is for Our Generation) it is going for RIDICULOUS prices on ebay (seriously, shame on them for selling for $175-$500!)

I'm hoping this is a new line and not just a one-off for the holiday season. The loft comes with the kitchen/bar/bar stools, but the living room, bedroom, office and outdoor furniture come in four separate sets. The furniture seems to also only be available in store and not online. On ebay the sets of furniture are selling for about $115 for all 4, Target is selling them for $12.99 each but only in some stores.

The loft fits 6" dolls and measures 18.5" tall, 20" wide and 12" deep which makes it great for 1:12 scale. It's made out of plastic and wood and requires 3 AAA batteries to operate the lamp in the kitchen.

Below is a video tour, plus click here for a blog review with more pictures americangirlideas.com:

The hubs put his foot down on yet another dollhouse unless I get rid of one, so I may have to hit up Santa to bring this one for "my kids". Heck $37.50!?!?! Who can pass that up?

(Super thanks to Modern MC and Call-small for always keeping me in the loop on new modern houses)

Battery operated lamps were at CVS

I found these miniature architecture lamps at CVS - "House to Home Smart Book Light". I dissuaded mini2b from buying a similar one at the Good Sam Showcase of Miniatures, only for her to find out these flew off the shelves. She went to 3 CVS stores and they were sold out, but a manager said they might sell them again during the holidays since they were so popular. So sorry mini2b!!!

They come in a variety of colors. They are about 4" tall. The yellow lamp is in a 1:12 scale setting. The green is in a 1:24 scale room. They are a little too small for 1:12 and too big for 1:24, but they only cost 2 for $5, so I'm trying to find a way to make them work.

The neck and the middle joint flex but the base does not. Pictured is the range of motion you can get out of them. If you happen to see these for sale at CVS again, please let me know. :)

I'm on the cover of The Dolls' House Magazine!!

I love surprises! I knew I was going to be in the September 2015 issue of The Dolls' House Magazine, but I didn't realize I'd be on the cover (insert happy dance)! My copy from the UK got a little bent out of shape but here are pics of the magazine. I'm featured on the cover, table of contents and in a 5 page article. This issue also features great work by Cynthia from ggsdolls, Anna-Maria from The Shopping Sherpa, and Cindy from Snowfern Clover. The September issue has some great tutorials for food, herbs and a mid-century modern dresser by Natalie Clegg that I want to try to make.

Thank you Katie and The Dolls' House Magazine, I'm flattered to be featured with so many other incredible miniaturists in your magazine. I had a great time styling my Antrim dollhouse for this interview and feature. I'll post more details soon.

You can order a copy of the magazine here. The Dolls' House Magazine is also on Facebook.

Miniatures in the Garden Section?

I'm used to searching for things that can be turned into miniatures whenever I go shopping, but I didn't expect to find almost 1:12 scale outdoor furniture in the Garden Section of OSH (Orchard Supply Hardware)! How cute are these tables, chairs and loungers? The succulent planters and furniture were $29.99 each. The furniture are intended to be for garden use as they have long metal legs that stake into the soil to hold them in place. The stakes could easily be cut off if you wanted to use them with a dollhouse. In the picture with my fingers you can see one metal stake leg had already snapped off (I didn't break it! I swear, it was like that when I found it).

Dreams Happened without me

I completely missed going to Dreams Happen this year (my kids were thrilled I didn't torture them again by dragging them to the mall to look at roped off playhouses they can't play with). Below are more details from the event with my favorite houses. You can see my coverage of previous years of this event here.

Since 1993, Stanford Shopping Center has co-sponsored and produced the biennial Dreams Happen event benefiting Rebuilding Together Peninsula—a non-profit organization dedicated to rehabilitating the homes and community facilities of neighbors in need from Sunnyvale to Daly City. Playhouses have sold for amounts ranging from $13,000 to $101,000. Bidding typically begins at $5,000.

The Bird House #‎HBSCreatinContest2015‬

I'm one of the 16 bloggers participating in HBS Miniatures' Blogger Project for the 22nd annual Creatin' Contest. Denise's City Cottage Kit is the limited edition kit for the contest this year. I actually bought two kits for my idea for the contest before I was contacted to join the project. I thought I might need three for my idea, so I jumped at the chnace to join the project, blog my progress and not enter my free kit into the contest.
After I dry fit the kit I realized, wow this is way bigger than I imagined. I must have glossed over the dimensions (20”W x 11 3/4”H x 20 1/4”D) when I thought I needed three to make my house inspired by Alberto Rubio's Bird Houses. Three of the houses joined together is going to be too monsterous, so now I'm trying to reasses my original plan. I may try to take my first two houses and create my original idea, and use the free kit to come up with something else. Back to the drawing board.

Build your mini dream house with Arckit

Forget LEGO, the ARCKIT is an amazing system of architectural pieces to design any house you can imagine. They offer 4 kits in 1:48 scale ranging from $70-$400 US. They are available worldwide with free shipping, and Barnes & Noble in the US just started stocking them in-store this month. I have a sneaky suspicion Santa will be bringing one of these for my "kids". Now, if only they came in 1:12, a girl can always dream.

Check out all of the kits at
